The UN Secretary-General’s temporary special consultant to Cyprus Jane Holl Lute, will arrive in Cyprus on Sunday.
It is generally expected that President Mustafa Akıncı will meet Mrs Holl Lute on Monday.
Lute met with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini at the beginning of December. Prior to her visit to Cyprus, is expected to pay similar visits to guarantor countries where she will continue with her work.
After her meeting with the guarantor countries and EU officials, she had presented her report on Cyprus UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The UNSG later presented a report to the UN Security Council and called for Lute to hold another meeting with the sides in Cyprus to see whether or not genuine convergences could be reached on key issues prior to the start of a new negotiations process. She also needed to know if the sides were willing to put forward new proposals that would facilitate a common vision for a joint future on the island.
Within this framework the UN Envoy carried out a visit to Cyprus and the guarantor countries in October.
