The Ayios Philon Church was erected on the ruins of buildings preserved from the Hellenic and Roman periods. Philo is a saint who introduced the inhabitants of Karpas to Christianity in the 4th century. The church consists of a triple apse and a courtyard surrounded by columns. The floor is decorated with colorful mosaics. The domed church was built in the 12th century on the ruins of an old structure destroyed by Arab pirates. In the church there is a room for the ordinance of baptism with the font. The church is located in the vicinity of the city of Karpasia of the Phoenician period.
In the 12th century, a new Byzantine church was erected on the ruins of the ancient basilica, which, however, did not last long. Today, only picturesque architectural fragments, a chapel with a baptismal font and an amazing floor mosaic of multi-colored stones and marble tiles remind of it.
